Gas Stove and Fireplaces

Gas stoves, inserts and fireplaces provide warmth and visual appeal. There are many options available in today's gas stove and fireplace market. No matter your budget, no matter what your style preference - if you desire a gas stove or fireplace, there is surely one available that will suit your needs.

Types of Gas Hearth Products:

Natural Gas Log Sets

Natural gas log sets are designed to be installed within an existing wood burning fireplace using the existing flue. Vented log sets work like wood burning fireplaces. They draw air from the room for combustion while venting by-products up the chimney. Like wood fires, much of the heat generated is lost up the chimney, making these primarily a decorative product; per the Department of Energy, less than 5% efficient.

Natural Gas Fireplace Inserts

Natural gas fireplace inserts are self-contained units designed to be installed within an existing fireplace opening. They provide more heat than natural gas log sets because of controlled combustion and ventilation. They are vented naturally through a working chimney or direct vented. A chimney liner is required. The type and size of liner is specific to the fuel. When rated like a furnace, AFUE (All Fuel Utilization Efficiency), many of these are up to 70% efficient.

Freestanding Natural Gas Stoves

Freestanding natural gas stoves are self-contained units that resemble old-fashioned wood burning stoves. Natural gas stoves can contribute significant heat to the room or the entire house. When rated like a furnace, AFUE (All Fuel Utilization Efficiency), many of these are up to 70% efficient.

Natural Gas Fireplaces

Factory-built natural gas fireplaces are an ideal choice when there is not an existing fireplace. These are also known as Zero Clearance fireplaces; which means they can be framed right into the wall. They can be placed, safely, close to combustible material. When rated like a furnace, AFUE (All Fuel Utilization Efficiency), many of these are up to 70% efficient.

Venting

Direct Vent:

Direct venting draws combustion air from outside as well as sending the exhaust outside. It can either be up through an existing flue or out the wall. The advantage is that there is no room air used for the combustion process. Because it operates as a sealed combustion appliance, cold air and down drafts cannot enter your living area, preventing sudden temperature fluctuations; even when the appliance is not being used; thus saving you money. Direct Vent is more efficient than B-Vent. It is the current standard for fireplace venting.

B-Vent:

B-vent takes in combustion air from the home and vents products of combustion outside the home. B-Vent is also commonly known as natural vent. B-vent models of fireplace are still available but are less common than direct vent units.
